Never Again is Now: Using the Holocaust to Examine Ourselves, our Communities, and our Humanity

Partnering with the Idaho Human Rights Education Center, the Idaho Satellite Seminar will focus on connecting the human rights violations of the Holocaust to present-day violations within our own communities and in our students’ personal lives. Teaching through inquiry, we will examine ways to support our students in developing critical thinking skills and their own voices as both writers and active community members.  Using novels, primary source documents, poetry, memoirs, film, and guest speakers, we will examine the roles of individuals in society during conflict and resolution, and identify patterns of persecution. Our goal is to develop a community of teachers who will continue to communicate and collaborate on Holocaust and social justice education.  Our hope is that participants leave with the sense that this responsibility is their right.

2012 dates: June 10 to 16
